When you tap or click on the note selector button , you get a full screen note selector, according to your reference scale:
You can see three parts in the page.
The scale header
It shows the current musical scale, or rāga, with it’s eventual flavour:
It’s important to remember the rāga and flavour in this note selector as:
- the swaras notes of the rāga will be represented in bold
- and the others in grey and italic
The notes which are not in the rāga are in grey, but you can still select them. It’s up to you to tune a tanpura (or other instrument) using notes outside of the rāga.
Octave selector
Then, you see the octave selector:
With it, you can select the octave from -2 octaves, to +2 octaves. It’s quite a big range of 5 octaves!
Also, this part provides a On/Off button for the note, to start/stop the note without closing the note selector. It will be present when the note represents a string (of tanpura), a voice (of shruti), …

Then, you have the note selector, adapted for the kind of reference scale.
Indian reference scales
Indian reference scales are using 22 shrutis, and notes from Sa to Ni (See 👆 Indian 22 shrutis system).

Then just select the note you need. It will be highlighted:
12 tones scales
Tempered scale is using 12 tones, and notes from C to B.

Usage of a page turner pedal or keyboard
You may use a page turner pedal or a keyboard to select the notes in the note selector :
- Left/Right: select the previous or the next shruti.
- Down/Up: select the previous or the next swara in the musical scale (rāga).
