Control the player with a page turner pedal or keyboard

The audio player of iTabla Pandit Studio Pro can be controlled very conveniently by two commands. This can be:

  • two keyboard keys: Space / Enter
  • two MIDI keys : piano keys or program change button A wide range of keyboard or MIDI devices can use used, they can be USB, bluetooth, normal keyboard, page turner pedal, MIDI keyboard, MIDI pedal…

Page turner pedal to control the audio file player

The idea is to control the player with only two button, with the space/enter combination, while you’re playing your musical instrument or singing. The playing mode which works quite good is as follow:

  • Space : Start/Stop playing
  • Enter :
    • if the player is playing, go back to the previous starting point (or the beginning of the audio file)
    • if the payer is paused, prepare to go back to the previous starting point. Every click on Enter will go back further to a previous start point, back to the starting of the audio file.

For MIDI devices, imagine Space is one MIDI control, and Enter is another. You have to configure them by clicking on the button:

  • MIDI controllers for player in the player’s screen
  • MIDI controllers for player in the application’s options

See 👆 Studio parameters’ MIDI mapping for more details.

Example scenario

  • Space : Start playing a file
  • Space : Stop just before the interesting phrase you want to practice
  • Space : Restart playing the file
  • Enter : Restart at the beginning of the phrase to practice
  • Enter : Restart at the beginning of the phrase to practice, … as many time as wished

Important

A keyboard and a MIDI device have a very important distinct feature:

  • Controlling the Studio with a keyboard or page turner works only when the iTabla Pandit Studio Pro is active in the front.
  • Controlling the Studio with a MIDI keyboard or MIDI pedal enables iTabla Pandit Studio Pro to receive events anytime, even in background and when the screen is off.

Control the player with a MIDI pedal or MIDI keyboard

It exists a variety of MIDI pedals and MIDI keyboards. Some devices, such as this M-VAVE bluetooth pedal are quite convenient and affordable:

This device has four buttons triggering MIDI program changes.

note: this device is shown as an example, we tested it, it works fine, except that in the model we tested, the buttons are making unpleasant clicks, which can be annoying if you plan to use it in concert.

In the 👆 Studio parameters’ MIDI mapping you can define which actions to trigger from such devices.

Important: Using a MIDI keyboard or pedal enables iTabla Pandit Studio Pro to receive events even in background and when the screen is off.
